Town Square 2

Torvet 2 stands out as a prominent backdrop against the inner harbor, and its location alone tells us that this was a building meant to be seen. It was erected after the city fire by district physician C. H. S. Scheen.

The family had already made their mark on the city: his great-grandfather founded Risør apotek in 1792, and this estate had also previously served as an inn for "distinguished travelers". Here, the practice of medicine, travel, and city life intersect in one and the same house.

The square was in the middle before the house was rebuilt

The building has also housed many different everyday activities. On the first floor, there was a doctor's office, later shops, a dairy store, a fashion store, and even a private cinema from 1910 to 1914. On the second floor, there was a large apartment, while the annex added during the renovation in 1914 gave the house an even more dignified appearance.

After many years as a bank, the bank relocated in 2025. Now, the second and third floors have been converted into apartments.
