Rådhusgata 3 – The Old Town Hall
Before the great fire, the old town hall stood nearby, built in 1798 with both a tower and clockwork. After the fire, a discussion arose: Should the new town hall be built in brick or wood? Where should it be located? The final answer was a wooden town hall, completed in 1871 according to builder Lütz's designs.
The decisions of the time stated that the building should be neither "opulent nor squalid". In the nineteen-twenties, the town hall was renovated, and on the stairs leading up to the second floor, you'll find a large stained glass piece by Finn Hansen.
Upstairs lies the banquet hall, which since its renovation in 1992 has once again been used for city council meetings. On the first floor, you'll find meeting rooms and maritime collections.
