Rådhusgata 1 - The Old Pharmacy
There was a pharmacy here for 150 years. The house was built after the town fire by pharmacist Ole Knudsen, and after his death, his son Knud Andreas Knudsen took over. Risør apotek was located here on the first floor all the way up until 2010.
Architecturally, the building is a great example of the reconstruction of the city after 1861, with clean lines and subdued decorations. But it's also worth taking a look at the more modest stable building next to it.
It was built at the same time and has remained largely unchanged since 1863. There was space for the pharmacist's two horses, and evidence of practical solutions for hay, outhouses, and daily operations are still documented.
